(NORTH AMERICA) Update: Missionary Daniel Shim's Beautiful Homecoming Ceremony

By Michael Mark

A beautiful homecoming ceremony for Missionary Daniel Hong Shim was held at 8:30pm CT on Friday, December 5, 2025. Around 150 people came from near and far, including from Canada and Germany, with many more joining online through Zoom to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Missionary Daniel.

A wonderful and heart-moving sermon was delivered by Pastor Mark Vucekovich, based on 2 Corinthians 12:9: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." Pastor Mark reflected on Missionary Daniel's life–that though he faced a difficult youth, health complications, physical weakness, and financial challenges, God's grace enabled him to raise up disciples and missionaries who served in many countries including Kenya, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, Macedonia, and the United States.

Beautiful eulogies were delivered by his children: Daniel Shim Jr., Mary Mark, and Ruth You, as well as fellow missionaries Luke Moon, Peter Yoon (his brother-in-law), and David Kim. Through their words, we witnessed his deep love and passion for the Word of God and prayer, and how God's grace empowered him to always sing praises with a powerful voice.

We thank God deeply for Missionary Daniel's life of love and devotion to his family and the flock of God. We rejoice knowing that he is now in glory with Christ in the kingdom of heaven. Please pray for God's all-sufficient grace, power, peace, and comfort for his surviving family members: Missionary Hannah Shim (his beloved wife), and his children Daniel Jr., Mary, and Ruth.

We announce with deep sorrow that God’s beloved servant, Missionary Daniel Shim (Hong Sub Shim), was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, December 2, at the age of 70. May God comfort his surviving family - Missionary Hannah and their three children: Daniel (LA), Mary (Chicago), and Ruth (Chicago).
